I won my first Giveaway Product

October 25, 2010 3 comments

There are many sites that review products and then are offered an additional product for the public so they run a “contest” type of giveaway for a chance to get the gift.  You will have to do as little as enter one comment for a chance to get chosen.  You also have the option to do extra things to earn more chances to win.  As much or as little you do is totally up to you.  Some products are not worth much effort but some are really worth the effort to get as many chances as you can.

I have always wondered if people ever really won all those things that people were giving away.  I was very skeptical about companies that said they were giving away big items.  A lady that I follow on Twitter talked about the gifts she had won.  I asked her about it and she wrote a column that helped me greatly.  It is at Getalonghome.com and could help you if you wanted to try it.  It can be found here.  Thanks Cindy for the great article.

Mama Charm Necklace

I just won my first Giveaway contest of this necklace.  It was sponsored by Thrifty & Chic Mom.  This is the page that shows the contest I entered and won.  I received that beautiful necklace last week from JULIAN & Co.  It is much prettier than the picture allows.  The chain has such a dainty link.  One side has the Mama engraved on it and the other side is set up as a frame for a picture.  This is truly a very nice gift to get.  I am very excited to have it.  It is going to be a gift for a very special little lady that I “adopted” when I met her.  She is expecting her first child now and we are so excited as she goes thru all of this.  This looks just like something I would have gotten her.

I want to thank JULIAN & Co. for offering out this wonderful necklace.  Thanks to Ellen @ Thrifty & Chic Mom for having the great giveaways on her site.

Where did the Weekend Go?

October 5, 2010 Leave a comment

I was busy the whole weekend but I don’t feel like I got much accomplished.  Do you feel like that too?  Time does pass quicker the older you get.  I don’t know where those two days went.

How do you manage your time?  I am big on lists but I still managed to go to Wal-Mart twice in the past 3 days and still did not get everything I wanted.

I am going to trim down my list of priorities of things I want to get accomplished each day.  I do need to add some to the list, so I HAVE to move some off.  They can come back later.  I really have to be working on Christmas gifts.  I also have two friends that are pregnant.  I love babies.  I will be making items for them.  I will post pictures of those gifts.

What do you do to make more time in your life?  I have to decide which are “fun”, “necessary”, “obligations” and what do I just feel like I can move on to a secondary list. How do you keep a good balance in your life?

An Easy Erasable Board

I found this Picture Frame Dry Erase Board and realized that you could use those markers on something other than a White Board. Since the only place I have ever used them was at work, I never thought of using them on anything else. This was great for me who loves lists. How easy does it get, besides using sticky notes?

I wanted to make one for my sister also. I went to the Dollar Tree and picked up a couple of wooden document frames to start the project. I should have looked better at the condition of the wood frames.  They were of terribly poor quality and not smooth.  Luckily I have a can of Stone Creations spray paint that gives the appearance of stone. I had to give it several coats to cover it but it worked like a charm.

Frame with Single Color Background

Let me tell you of my lessons learned. My sister loves lambs so I first tried a background with sheep on it.  I found that to be too busy to read what I wrote.  I went to a piece of textured single color paper.  I think that works much better.   I am going to Hobby Lobby or Joann’s and see if I can find some seasonal scrapbook papers that we can change out with the holidays and seasons.  I will have to find something that has very muted images on it to avoid the issue I have all ready run into.  I think maybe a blue with clouds or a off-white paper with white snowflakes.  I am hoping I can find a small variety sheets that we can use.

Let me know what you think.  It is quick and easy project that you can make very quickly (unless you have to paint the frame).  Maybe a good gift for a teacher or a friend with scheduled practices and meetings.

Taming Those Loose Ends on Spools of Thread

September 28, 2010 Leave a comment

I have hundreds of spools of thread for my sewing and embroidery machine. I was looking for an economical solution for keeping the threads from unraveling and making a tangled mess. Because I have so many spools, most ready-made solutions would end up being too costly. Well I was at the Dollar Tree store this weekend and saw a pack of those rubber bands for the little braids. There was 750 in the package. WOW, for a dollar I would see if this was my solution. They are not what I would consider real rubber, they are more like an elastic plastic. They do work and are just large enough to go over one of the larger spools of thread. I am hoping they continue to work after being taken on and off multiple times but if they don’t, hey, I have 740 left in there.

They come in a variety of colors. I learned very quickly that you want to put dark ones on light-colored thread and light ones on the dark threads. They stretch out to about the size of thread too so it is hard to tell where they are on the spool. For three days they have worked, I will let you know if things change but it is a solution for me today. I hope this helps someone else.

I tried to take a picture of the plastic bubble card they came on but I could not get a good enough picture so you could tell anything. Just look in the hair styling supplies of any store. Some brand of them will be available.

Scented Packets for Hangers

Scented Hanger PDF

I saw this project and thought how nice to freshen up some closets, especially for those holding out of season clothes. I modified it somewhat to accommodate the material I had on hand. After they were made I was just looking at them. Then I thought that it could also be a good hiding place for small articles. It can hold cash or small jewelry. I found the pattern on the internet. It is compliments of White Sewing Machines.

Learning How To Modify My Page

September 24, 2010 Leave a comment

I have been looking at my page all week and thinking how sparse it looked.  I am not happy with the style or with much of it at all.  I need a guide on how to change it to look like I want, even though right now, I don’t know what I want.  I just know I want better than I have now.  I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend in between other things.  I really need to research how to use WordPress.  I will look at other blogs and pick the features that they have and I want and go from there.  I am not a create it from scratch kind of person.  I need guidance.  I wish I had a Blog Fairy Godmother to help me.  Let’s see what I can have on Monday.
